Welcome
The importance of biofuels (bio-diesel & ethanol) is rapidly increasing with growing anxiety over crude oil supply and fast climatic changes. Biodiesel is an environment friendly fuel prepared from edible and non-edible vegetable oils. Blending of biodiesel with petro-diesel has tremendous positive social, ecological and economic impact on the society.

The North Eastern region can provide three species, Jatropha curcas (Bhotera in Assamese, Ratanjot/Jangli erenda in Hindi), Pongamia pinnata (Karanj / Karach) and Mesua ferea (Nahar) to the biodiesel pool.

Jatropha curcas has been identifiedas the most suitable Tree Borne Oilseed (TBO) for production of biodiesel in India.

The objectives of the programme are -

  1. to increase awareness on biodiesel in the North East
  2. to train growers / entrepreneurs on agropractices of Jatropha cultivation
  3. to motivate youth and small/medium scale entrepreneurs to set up enterprise on Jatropha Oil extraction and Bio diesel Production
  4. to motivate consumers to use bio-diesel with petro-diesel at proper blending ratio (5-10%) by providing technical information
  5. to forge market linkage
